Theft from Motor Vehicle

Dear Apsley resident

At around 9pm on the 1st December an attempted theft from a vehicle occurred in West Valley road, where resident called police reporting that he had disturbed people trying to break into his van. 3 males in balaclavas were seen by the victim in a black Audi possibly a Q shape but no index seen.

No entry gained to the vehicle which is a work van, full of victims tools. The side of the van has been drilled into causing damage to the door.

Tips to prevent vehicle crime:

Ensure you lock doors and shut windows/sunroof when leaving your vehicle unattended.

Always remove keys from the ignition when you are not with the vehicle

When parking, remember to set your immobiliser or alarm or use an approved steering lock or gear lever clamp.

Never leave valuables in your vehicle – not even in the glove box or boot – and keep all possessions out of sight – even coats, sunglasses and carrier bags.

Remove your satnav and holder and wipe away suction marks which could indicate that a satnav is stored in your vehicle.

Be aware of your keys. Don’t leave them lying around, visible or in pockets in changing rooms where they could be taken. Don’t leave them visible on a windowsill or near to your front door, where they could be “hooked” through the letterbox.

If you have a keyless entry car use a signal blocking bag and consider using additional trackers and steering wheel locks.

Store car ownership documents at home, not in your car.

Secure number plates with anti-theft screws.
